About Me

and my areas of expertise

You know yourself best

I believe that every person is unique and that not all stand-alone therapies are appropriate for all clients. As an Integrative Counsellor, I will ‘blend’ or ‘integrate’ theories and techniques appropriate for my clients individual needs to be met. We are all unique in how we experience and perceive the World around us even if our stories our similar. I always say that “what one person can cope with another person may not be able to”

Life can be challenging and difficult for many different reasons. Sometimes we just want someone to listen to us, hear us, believe us, and help us to talk through what is affecting us. You may find it difficult to talk about your feelings with friends and family. Seeking one-to-one counselling with a trained Counsellor or longer-term work with a Psychotherapist could be what you need.

“Sometimes, people who need help look nothing like people who need help” – Glennan Doyle Melton

Taking the first step is often the hardest but once you begin the Counselling process and ‘Your Journey’ you will become more self-aware, have more understanding, be able to obtain some closure of past experiences and be empowered to make changes in your life for a happier future.

By working together forming a trusting and transparent therapeutic relationship, I can help clients with ‘unravelling’ their thoughts and feelings to make more sense of the issues causing distress, confusion, pain and unhappiness. Our work together may be different too as I am very much “what you see is what you get” and I work very much with you, your needs and on my instincts based on a professional relationship of trust, openness, honesty, safety and mutual respect.

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become” – Carl Jung

I am passionate about…

Helping YOU and others who may be struggling with their mental health due to events or issues that are happening to them. As someone who like you, may have experienced life events that have not always been positive, I do not want to see others struggle with the fear, hopelessness, loss, sadness, and despair that I sometimes felt. As a counsellor and human I would like to work with you through your feelings and to help you achieve an understanding of how those feelings are affecting you, why you are experiencing feeling the way that you are and why those feelings are valid and important.
I have experience of working with clients who have survived child sexual abuse, sexual violence, rape, and domestic violence. I have helped those serving in the Armed Forces, Veterans, the Emergency Services and also those who lost loved ones during COVID -19. Many have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress and I have helped many of them cope with their Post Traumatic Stress Symptoms, losses and feel better with the RTM Protocol (read more in my blog!). I am passionate about helping those who have a ‘loss’ of identity due to trauma experience, life changes, transitions, diagnosis of a long-term condition, ‘visible’ differences such as cancer scars or injury, ‘invisible’ differences such as being Neuro Diverse. I have collaborated with those clients within the LGBQT+ communities and those with addictions (which I would like to explore further). I previously worked as a Midwife within the NHS. I have experience of working with women (and their families) who have experienced PND, suffered the loss of a child or experienced issues around fertility and the menopause.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a ‘talking therapy’ that enables you to discuss your feelings in a safe, comfortable and confidential space. I can provide such an environment whereby I will listen to your story without judgement or assumptions through acceptance, understanding and support. Together we can talk and begin to ‘unravel’ the feelings and thoughts that are bothering you, together. I do not tell you what to do but enable you to work this out for yourself as you know yourself better than anyone.
Below are some of the ‘types’ of counselling I may use and ‘blend’ during our sessions. This list is not exhaustive as I may include Trauma Informed practice, Somatics Body Work  or other models, depending upon the needs each client.
